UAP Brunei Celebrates WAD 2014

On 5 October 2014, Sunday, the UAP Brunei Chapter held an architectural tour of the 'Venice of the East', Kampong Ayer, a water village in Brunei in celebration of the World Day of Architecture 2014 with the theme 'Healthy Cities, Happy Cities'.

The light rain that afternoon did not stop the members from going ahead with the tour which highlighted the traditional architecture of the water village as well as the new development in the community. The tour also featured the interesting institutional buildings in the water village such as the school, mosque and fire station. Also of interest (maybe to an architect's point of view) is how the service utilities in the water community differs to that of the mainland residential communities.

After the tour, the group shared a traditional dinner of 'Nasi Lemak' in keeping with the theme of the tour. The Committee on External Affairs presented the history of Kampong Ayer during dinner.
