Basic REVIT Workshop

The UAP Brunei Chapter thru the Committee on Education organized a two-day Basic Revit Workshop for the Chapter Members who are interested to learn the software program. The 10-hours workshop was held over two consecutive Sundays, on 12th & 19th of November 2017 at the Tinkerbell Learning School, No.8, Simpang 21-4, Jalan Masjid Salambigar, Negara Brunei Darussalam. Ar. Allan B. David, Director-Committee on Education and Ar. Romeo J. Nabong II, Chapter Secretary were the volunteer mentors of the workshop.

On the first day, Ar. Nabong gave an overview of the Revit Architecture program, its brief history, an orientation of its user interface and frequently used commands. The Revit Architecture program allows architects and building professionals to design and document buildings by creating a 3D model that includes both geometric and non-geometric design and construction information. This is also known as building information modelling or BIM.

To begin the workshop proper, Ar. Nabong instructed the participants to design a one-storey residence. The objective of the exercise was to demonstrate how to create drawings from scratch, starting with drafting the walls, floor slab, roof and gutter, and adding doors and windows. When that was completed, the site plan came next. The participants also learned how to manipulate views on the interface and create sectional views

On the second day of the workshop, Ar. David demonstrated to the participants how Revit Architecture works with AutoCAD drawings. A prepared AutoCAD plan of a two-storey residence was given to the participants. The plan was then imported into Revit for the participants to work on. In addition to that, the participants were able to learn how to prepare working drawings from this exercise. After the architectural plan was prepared on Revit, the participants added the grid lines, levels and dimensions. The workshop gave the participants the basic skills to successfully create architectural drawings using Revit.

The following Members that participated in the workshop were, Architects Albert M. Abarintos, Aladin C. Agitan, Yolito I. Amante, Kevin O. Bacabis, Jonald C. Catapang, Eric S.J. De Castro, Noel R. Consular, Ireneo V. Delos Santos, Orville J. Dulce, Hernando J. Hautea Jr., Iris Rachel P. Pabilonia-Benig, Rafael M. Robea, Kelly L. Tajonera, Nina L. Torregosa and Jimmy D. Villanueva.

Lastly, the Chapter would like to extend its gratitude once again to Ms. Edel Bartholomew, owner of Tinkerbell Learning School for her kind permission to use the school as the venue for the workshop.
