UAP BN Participates in the Recycled Parol Contest
The UAP Brunei Chapter attended the “Araw ng Pasasalamat : Paskong Pinoy sa Pasuguan" held on 15 December 2017 at the Philippine Embassy compound Simpang 336, Diplomatic Enclave, Jalan Kebangsaan, Bandar Seri Begawan, Negara Brunei Darussalam, upon the kind invitation of the Philippine Chancery Brunei Darussalam. Prior to the start of the program, The Philippine Embassy made a few quick announcements pertaining to OFW ID issuance and some important reminders including concerns on Extension of Visa. The Embassy requested all participating organizations to inform its Members about the matter.
During the Paskong Pinoy sa Pasuguan, there was a “Caroling” contest among the various Filipino Organizations and the winners for the Recycled Parol Contest were announced and awarded. The contest was open to all Filipino Community organizations registered with the Embassy. The Parol shall be made primarily of recycled materials and should exhibit Filipino Artistry and ingenuity. It has to be prominent in terms of size as it will be displayed at the Chancery throughout the yuletide season. The following were the criteria for judging: Originality – 30%, Aesthetics – 30% and Recycled Materials – 40%.
There were nine (9) entries for the Parol contest submitted by the following organizations: Guardians International Brunei (GIBFI), Filipino Association Brunei (FAB), Philippine Nurses Association Brunei Chapter (PNA-BC), Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE B), BIGBI, Pinoy Bowling Club (PBC), TGBI-TO, Overseas Filipino Workers Global Movement for Empowerment (OFWGME) and of course the United Architects of the Philippines Brunei Chapter (UAP BN). The BIGBI entry was adjudged the Grand prize winner for this year's Parol contest while the Caroling contest was won by the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE B).
Members representing the Chapter were led by Yolito I. Amante, Nina L. Torregosa, Kelly L. Tajonera, Allan B. David and Romeo J. Nabong II. The Chapter went home with a consolation award for the Recycled Parol Contest, receiving a Certificate of Appreciation and some gift items from His Excellency Ambassador Meynardo LB Montealegre, the Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam. The program has started at 6:00 PM and ended at around 9:15 P.M.
