Sixth GMM for FY 2017-18


The United Architects of the Philippines Brunei Chapter held its sixth general membership meeting for FY 2017-2018 at Ar. Alan F. Filio residence House No. 4, Simpang 545, Jalan Kota Batu, Kg Dato Gandi, BSB, Brunei Darussalam last 12 January 2018.

Prior to the meeting proper, a cake was prepared by the Chapter President as treat for members who celebrated their birthdays for the month of December last year and for members who will be celebrating their birthdays this January 2018. Also blowing the candles were the newly-wed couple architects Charles Lyndsey N. Gloria and Jennefer F. Pardilla. The birthday treat was subsequently followed by a potluck style dinner where each Committee brought delicious Filipino food that were shared together by the members. The heavy rain and cool weather outside was no match to the strong taste of hot “tomyam” soup which was really enjoyed by all.

Moving on with the meeting, on top of the agenda was the Chapter mid-Fiscal year assessment report wherein chapter activities for July-December 2017 were enumerated each by the Chapter President. The said chapter activities were timely submitted to the UAP National by the Chapter Secretary and were duly received and certified by the UAP Secretariat.

Second on the list are the upcoming Chapter activities for January-June 2018 from each Committee. Activities such as Technical product presentation and workshop on ArchiCAD program to be conducted by one of the chapter members are just some of the events that the membership is looking forward to. It was also announced that the Chapter Election of New Officers for FY 2018-2019 is scheduled for next month as well.

The monthly financial report was presented by the Chapter Treasurer while the Chapter Secretary was tasked to do a presentation about the UAP Annual National Awards for FY 2017-2018 for the information of the members. The Chapter has proposed and will do its best to submit bids for the following categories, namely: (1) Outstanding New Member (Foreign-Based) (2) Outstanding Member (Foreign-Based) (3) Outstanding Chapter President (Foreign-Based Chapter) (4) Outstanding Chapter (Foreign-Based Chapter) (5) Outstanding World Architecture Day (WAD) Program (6) Outstanding National Architecture Week (NAW) Program (7) Outstanding Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program and (8) Outstanding Camaraderie and Unity Program. Meanwhile, the Chapter will have to wait for the confirmed schedule for NATCON 44 prior making arrangements to the members.

Finally, an announcements from the Philippine Embassy was mentioned by the Chapter President which is the Chapter’s participation in Brunei’s 34th National Day Celebration that is scheduled on 23 February 2018. The Philippine Embassy has invited Filipino organizations in Brunei to submit a maximum of 7 members/participants to join the said occasion. The Committee on Internal Affairs was tapped to lead the coordination. The meeting with dinner has started around 7:12 PM and ended at 10:44 PM.
