2 Members Attend the Marawi Incident Talk

Upon the invitation of the Philippine Chancery Brunei Darussalam, the United Architects of the Philippines Brunei Chapter together with other Filipino Community/Professional organizations in Brunei Darussalam attended the talk about the Marawi siege last 26 January 2018.

The talk was divided into two parts. The first part was a 15 minutes video depicting the actual battle ground were soldiers relentlessly chased the terrorists; rescue operations that were conducted by the AFP for its wounded military personnel and most importantly the civilian hostages as well; display of fire power used by the Military in air, land and sea; and proper strategic planning with effective leadership that were all in place which eventually resulted to the defeat of the Maute-led terrorist group.

The second part were insights from Lt. Gen. Rolando Joselito D. Bautista, AFP Commanding General of the Philippine Army about the probable reasons on how and why this terroristic act had occurred and suggested some potential solutions that may prevent its recurrence. Finally, Lt. Gen. Bautista informed the attendees that the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Marawi is in full swing and has been prioritized by President Rodrigo R. Duterte for completion. The Battle of Marawi happened last year (27 May 2017 to 23 October 2017) that lasted for 5 months.

The primary intention of the talk was to inform the attendees on the true stories and reports the AFP had experienced during the battle and to refute the misinformation reported to the public by the social-media and other media outlets.

Representing the Chapter were Ar. Pedro L. Fontanilla Jr. and Ar. Romeo J. Nabong II. The talk had started at 1:30 P.M. and ended around 4:30 P.M.
