Sportsfest: Let's Get Physical!

Every year, the UAP Brunei Chapter holds its Family Day in May. The objective of the activity is to promote unity, friendship and bring together families of chapter members. This year, the Committee on Internal Affairs organized the Chapter’s first ever sports festival as a family day activity. The sports festival was aptly titled “Let’s Get Physical” and was held on 13th May 2018, Sunday at the Fitness Zone Mutli-Purpose Hall, Kiulap, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.
The sportsfest was officially opened by the Chapter President Ar. Alan F. Filio. Then, the Zumba Warm-Up followed to prepare the participants for the games. Following the dance warm up were 6 shoot out competition categories: 3-Point Shoot Out Open, Mid-Range Shoot Out Women's, Free Throw Shoot Out Men's, Free Throw Shoot Out Women's, Free Throw Shoot Out Kids and Half Court Shoot Out Open. Members and their family all had the opportunity to compete in the different categories. The participants were then split into teams of 2 for a running game of Badminton Mix Doubles Match. Fourteen teams vied to win the top spot, with one team emerging as the Champion.

The winners of all the sport categories were awarded custom gold and silver medals. For the 3-Point Shoot Out Open Category, Ar. Yolito I. Amante surprised the crowd by shooting the highest points and got his own gold medal. For the Mid-Range Shoot Out Women's Category, Ar. Niña Torregosa bagged the gold medal. For the Free Throw Shoot Out Men's Category, the gold medal was won by Ar. Gilbert. The gold medal for the Free Throw Shoot Out Women's Category was earned by Jamie Isip-Nicdao, spouse of chapter member Ar. Heric B. Nicdao. Chapter member Ar. Lilian Tampoc-Peña’s son Allianz Peña went home with the gold medal for Free Throw Shoot Out Kids Category. For the Half Court Shoot Out Open Category, the sole lucky shooter who got the gold medal was Ar. Albert M. Abarintos.
In the Badminton Mix Doubles Match, the team of Ar. Claire De Guzman-Franco and Ar. Albert Abarintos bested thirteen other teams and emerged as the champions. Coming in as First Runner-up is the team of

At the end of the sports festival, the chapter members and their family shared a lunch meal together. To celebrate Mother’s Day, a cake was also prepared to honor the moms of UAP Brunei as well as the spouses of the members.
The Sportsfest was successfully organized in cooperation with the Committee on Internal Affairs headed by Ar. Eric S.J. De Castro. The event started around 9:00 AM and ended at 1:00 PM.
