Introduction to LEED Green Building Rating System by Ar. Raymond Andrew Sih, UAP, LEED AP BD+C.

The UAP Brunei Chapter successfully conducted the Continuing Professional Development Seminar (CPD) entitled “Introduction to LEED Green Building Rating System” on 28th October 2018 at the North Star Development Sdn Bhd, First Floor, STP Building, Spg. 584 Km.7, Kg.Bunut, Jalan Tutong, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam. The seminar was attended by 30 Chapter members. It is the third CPD-accredited seminar organized by the Chapter and the second for the Fiscal Year 2018-2019.

The program commenced with an invocation led by Ar. Jonald Catapang followed by welcoming remarks from Chapter President Ar. Reynaldo M. Ramos.

A brief introduction was done by Ar. Wario C. Tacbad for the Guest Speaker, Ar. Raymond Andrew Sih, UAP, LEED AP BD+C. Ar. Sih holds a Masters degree in Architecture and Urban Design Degree from Columbia University, New York City, USA. He specializes in Architectural Commercial Design, Urban Design and Sustainable Design.

In his presentation, Ar. Sih emphasized the need for green buildings. Buildings contribute to 35% of world’s energy consumption and also contributes to a portion of the world’s water consumption. There will be a 100% increase in the population of developing countries by 2050. Currently, the emerging markets are in the midst of a construction boom and cities are under resource constraints.

4. Site Development

5. Water Efficiency

6. Energy Efficiency

7. Materials

8. Environmental Quality

9. LEED Professional Credential: Green Associate and Accredited Professional with Specialty

A brief question and answer segment was entertained by Ar.Sih, after each topic was discussed.

The closing remarks was enthusiastically delivered by Ar. Nina L. Torregosa, Chapter VP for Operations to officially end the program. The whole day seminar was ably moderated by Ar. Hernando J. Hautea Jr. The Chapter lauds the organizing committee led by Ar. Francis D. Nicdao, Director for Committee on CPD for another successful CPD program.

It was a grueling day for the participants but more than the points earned from the CPD, the membership benefited a lot from the learning from this commendable and milestone event for the chapter.
